Here at Thawed Magazine, we're always checking for Rising Stars and one such Artist who we've had the opportunity to see perform live at L.O.U.D Fest 2022 in Houston, Texas, as well as check out many of her songs and Music Videos, is Skyrah Bliss. So, without further ado, let us all learn more about Skyrah Bliss as we delve into her Purple World. Thank You Skyrah Bliss. We appreciate you and your time!! Can You tell our readers before we get deep into the interview, how did your name come about?? Is it a story behind it?
There's not an interesting story behind my name. I've always wanted to be called Sky because I reference it a lot when I write songs. It feels like I'm floating or transcending into another universe when I'm performing or creating music. I came across the name Skyrah and knew that was my name. It means eternal life, beauty and strength! The Bliss adds a little razzle dazzle haha!
You have a great Spirit, and you keep it colorful. Was that always apart of you and your Life?
I've always had a colorful personality and the ability to uplift others! My life goal moving forward is to laugh more and travel more. I'm human, so just like everybody else I have my days. I tend to keep to myself a lot when going through tough times because everyone is so used to me being the "strong friend". So, I do have those moments. I just do my best to not let them affect me for too long. Good times are waiting for you even through the storm!
What was the defining point in your career so far, that showed you that you could be the Professional Artist, that you are today?
I wouldn't say there was a specific moment. I would say there were multiple events that led me to believe I could do this as a professional. Like many artists, I was discouraged from pursuing music because I didn't have a musical background. I was definitely a diamond in the rough but despite many setbacks, I was able to persevere through it all and work my way up to the artist I am today. I'm just getting started baby! I can't wait to see the growth I'll continue to have.
What is the wildest show that you’ve experienced so far or can substitute with your wildest Fan/Supporter moment?
I would say the solo concert my team and I put on last year! Everything you see is a team effort and I'm thankful to have their support! The applause at the end will always be a core memory for me. I used to get that type of applause performing other artist songs in the beginning of my career, because I had no original music at the time. I would perform a lot of Janet Jackson, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson songs. To me, they are the epitome of what an artist should be. So, by performing their songs, it gave me the foundation to what energy my original songs should have. Also, what breath and vocal control I needed to be a top performer, etc. Applying everything I learned from them, I was able to really start seeing the fruits of my labor at my last solo concert.
Do you see your growth with each song that you put out and if so, how much have you grown from “Hoodrat sh1t” “Hype Me Up” to “Make it out Alive”?
I try to push myself to create the best song I can possibly make each time I create a new song. I'm a true perfectionist and sometimes that gets in the way of what feeling the song should have. All of these songs were created around the same time. I can truly see the growth of me letting go of needing everything to be perfect. Because you can really feel the emotion. And that was my ultimate goal.
What can the readers expect from your upcoming EP when they play it from beginning to end, “The Purple Girl in a Purple World”?
A breath of fresh air! An energetic piece of art that will allow you to escape reality for the moment. We're all in survival mode right now, we need moments to just live!
How has Social Media been a benefit and what is something that you dislike about Social Media??
Social Media is definitely beneficial. It has the capability of growing your fan base around the world! Unfortunately, it's extremely oversaturated and has diminished the quality of artist, in my opinion. The need to be on camera 24/7 or in a scandal to stay relevant is taking away from the art form of music. I'm an extremely private person and I'd like to keep it that way as much as possible. I just see a lot of artists performing for attention instead of performing their art and that's not something I'm interested in. It's content over quality and I would like to be one of the artists who makes quality more prevalent in the music industry again. Cuz when you come to a Skyrah Bliss show, IT'S A SHOW HONEY lol!
What keeps you motivated and working hard in your career?
The love I have for music! I'm extremely passionate about my craft and take it very seriously to the point where I forget to have fun sometimes lol! When I was younger, I found it easier to express my emotions in short stories, poetry and songs. I guess that's something that will never change!
Before we leave, can you tell our readers why they will absolutely love a Skyrah Bliss Song, EP, or Video and what they will get out the experience of going into your Music world?
Hello beautiful readers! :) What I hope you experience listening to one of my records is pure freedom to be who you truly are unapologetically. Fitting in was never a goal of mine and I hope that my music gives you the courage to stand out and be who you desire to be. Transcending you into the highest version of yourself into another universe!
Is there anything, that we may have left out, that you want our readers to know about you and your music?
Yes! I have a favor to ask. It would mean the world to me if everyone could pre-order my single "Make It Out Alive" set to be released June 21st! The pre-orders could potentially help me reach the billboard charts! Also, if you're in Houston, I have a single release party on June 23rd! Thank y'all so much, my beautiful rebels, for taking the time out to read this interview and Thawed Magazine for having me! 💜
