Flint, Michigan's own Claressa Shields and Saginaw, Michigan's own BLUMOON
A few days before her Heavyweight title fight, Claressa Shields had a sendoff from her hometown of Flint, Michigan. Known as the GWOAT, Shields will be boxing against WBC heavyweight champion Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse. Shields will be climbing up two weight classes for the fight. She has won in the middleweight division, and as a super welterweight and super middleweight. The Boxing match will be held Saturday, July 27, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The Free Block Party was held today, Sunday July 21, 2024 and it happened across from where Shields grew up at, at Berston Field House, which served as her training ground.
One of her special guests was Saginaw, Michigan's own, BLUMOON, who has steadily been making a name for herself in her profession of Music. We asked BLUMOON a few questions to find out more. You can follow her IG @ BLUMOON 💙🌙 (@blumoonrare)
Thank You BLUMOON for kickin it wit Us!! Let's begin with;
"How long have you been doing music? At what age did you begin?
I’ve been doing music my whole life! I started singing in church as a young kid, but around 6th grade I began rapping and writing my own songs. Now as far as recording and taking it very seriously, I’d say I was about 17-18 years old. Over 10 years doing this!
What do like better, performing or creating the music?
I love both but I’d have to say creating over performing for sure. I just love how everything comes together while I’m writing, building the melodies and harmonies. Performing is the icing on the cake because you get to see people fall in love with the music and the vibes.
You just performed for the GWOAT. Can you tell us how that turned out and how was the crowd and crowd reaction?
It was a great experience! I was honestly just excited to be there. The crowd was tuned in and they really vibed with the song! Flint definitely showed loved to myself and the other performers as well.
You have a new single out featuring Hunna Grann and Loso Luciano. What was your aim lyrically, for this track? .
Yes! That’s my favorite song right now, obviously. I wanted it to be a hype song, but I wanted it to be uplifting! So, my message was targeted towards creatives who get told that their dreams don’t matter or that you won’t make it in certain careers. Just because another person can’t see your vision doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t happen for you. I wanted all my peers and creatives alike to know not to stop because people doubt you, just double the work. If you want it, make it happen.
What's coming up next for you and can you tell us and our readers, why they should keep an eye out for you and your music?
I have a mixtape coming, all produced by Fresh Rich. This tape is fun, it’s a cool vibe and it features some of my favorite artists from Saginaw! I’m super excited about it. Also, more features with more artists around the city are on the way as well! Some dope music is on the way and now that the city is starting to hop on board, I’d hate for y’all to miss this! Stay tuned!
